EPG is seeking an entry level Environmental Planner for our Phoenix office. Qualifications and skills required:

Experience

  • 0-2 years of experience in project management, NEPA documentation, and/or coordination with federal land management agencies in the western U.S.
  • 0-2 years of experience with a variety of development project types, including large-scale projects
  • 0-2 years of experience with municipal, county, state, and/or federal agencies

Skills

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Physically capable of extensive walking in backcountry conditions
  • Strong planning skills
  • Ability to produce quality documents and graphics
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with GIS (Esri ArcGIS) and ability to produce cartographic maps and assist with data collection is preferred
  • Proficient with writing and formatting technical documents
  • Detail oriented while still able to understand the overarching goals of a project
  • Effective time-management skills
  • A desire to learn and thrive
  • Ability to work productively in both a team environment and independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities

Education

  • Four-year degree in natural resources, environmental science, biology/ecology, planning, landscape architecture, water resources, or related field of study.
  • Coursework in ecology, biology, environmental policy, planning, land use, and water resources is beneficial.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience using GIS (Esri ArcGIS) and ability to produce cartographic maps and assist with data collection
  • Experience in federal visual resource management systems (BLM/USFS)
  • Experience with AutoCad or 3D Studio Max for 3D model development, AutoCad (including Civil 3D), ArcGIS Desktop, Photoshop, MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign)

Job responsibilities include assisting with the following:

  • Projects related to the following: National Environmental Policy Act Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Categorical Exclusions; Clean Water Act including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Section 404/Section 10; Endangered Species Act; Migratory Bird Act; and/or local planning and zoning
  • Other planning, natural resource management, and environmental permitting and compliance work
  • Technical writing and simple data analysis and management assignments
  • Field work, at times under rigorous conditions
  • Miscellaneous planning, design, and office tasks, as needed
  • Regional planning projects and facility siting studies, to include agency contacts and report collection; visual, land use, and socioeconomic data collection, analysis studies, and impact assessments; and documentation in environmental reports and permits (e.g., EISs, EAs, and conditional use permits)
  • Developing computer-aided simulations and graphics
  • Proposal preparation, document production, and report research

Typical Schedule

  • Full-time, salaried position
  • Occasional travel for field work
